ABOUT PITTSBURGH BALLET THEATRE (PBT):

POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Production is the project manager for all PBT and PBT School performances in multiple formats. This individual is primarily responsible for the coordination of all production activities for PBT and PBT School performances. The Director of Production is a leader within the organization who is able to troubleshoot, project-manage and propel ballet and dance through creativity in bringing the artform to the region and beyond. The Director of Production is responsible for the supervision of those within the production department, including the assistant stage manager, contracted stage managers, part-time stagehands and department heads and the relationships with those unions where applicable.
Key Internal Relationships: Holds accountability to both organization directors. Manages a full-time production staff plus all part-time stagehands and regular part-time department heads. This individual works very closely with the marketing, development and finance departments as well as all artistic staff and all administrative senior managers.
Key External Relationships: Serves as the primary contact for local, regional, national and international venues, representatives of IATSE Local 3, production contractors including set and lighting designers.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the production team, including full-time staff and part-time IATSE staff.
- Provide administrative management and support for the wardrobe staff.
- Hire and schedule all production personnel required for performance-related activities.
- Acts as liaison with Pittsburgh Cultural Trust Production Staff, for all Trust Venues
- Coordinates technical rehearsal and performances schedule with Artist Department
- Prepare, manage, monitor all season production budgets, including venue rentals, stage labor, loaders, construction, transportation, equipment rentals, and production-related fees.
- Acts as the primary point of contact for Scenic, Lighting and Projection Designers
- Provide the management team with timely and accurate production budget information and projections on a monthly basis.
- Develop detailed cost projections for new productions for PBTs 3 year rolling budget.
- Prepare biweekly payroll for IATSE department heads.
- Develop and maintain the master production schedule for all PBT performances.
- Manage PBT’s lighting, sound, video, scenic, and properties inventories.
- Plan, supervise, and coordinate all logistics related to the load-in, performance run, and load-out of production elements.
- In lieu of a production stage manager, the individual in this position will be asked to fulfill the daily, in-studio duties of a production stage manager.
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of five years of production experience with a performing arts organization.
- Direct experience working with IATSE stage labor.
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing production budgets.
- Experience with ballet production and touring activities is preferred.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure and meet demanding deadlines.
- Strong financial, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Advanced computer proficiency, particularly in spreadsheet analysis.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends, and extended workdays as production needs require.
- Ability to provide stage-management support as needed.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift or move at least 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States. This position is a full-time position located in Pittsburgh, PA. This is not a remote position, though PBT does support hybrid work arrangements. All candidates must live in or be willing to relocate to the region.
