Are you prepared to lead a fast-moving office that supports vital community services as an Administrative Officer 1 with the Department of Human Services? This position places you at the center of clerical operations that help families receive the assistance they depend on. You will coordinate a wide range of office activities that keep the Montgomery County Assistance Office running smoothly. Your leadership will help maintain steady, well-organized, and responsive operations for both staff and clients.

This role oversees complex clerical and administrative operations that support income maintenance staff and broader office programs. The position handles coordination, staff direction, administrative systems, and important operational functions across the Montgomery County Assistance Office. As an Administrative Officer 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Staff Supervision: Direct technical and clerical employees who provide administrative support to income maintenance units
  • Training Oversight: Plan, organize, and guide training for new and current clerical employees
  • Program Coordination: Manage essential administrative programs, including the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) system, mail operations, safety protocols, and facility management
  • Operational Analysis: Study administrative processes, develop improvement recommendations, and assist in implementing policy or procedural updates
  • Public Interaction: Gather information, resolve complaints, and communicate with internal staff and outside organizations
  • Office Management: Oversee purchasing, supply distribution, equipment planning, and income maintenance coordination

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. Your schedule may change based on operational needs.
  • Travel and overtime: As needed 
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Norristown, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Work Conditions: Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with district offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs. Reassignments will be made in compliance with contract language.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in varied office management or staff work; and bachelor's degree; or 
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
