As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic with the Department of Transportation, you will help keep vital equipment safe and ready for use every day. This role centers on maintaining, repairing, and inspecting a wide range of vehicles and construction equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Mechanical Repairs: Perform maintenance and repairs on engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, cooling systems, and transmissions
- Preventative Work: Carry out routine inspections, diagnostics, tune ups, and system adjustments to keep equipment in safe working order
- State Inspections: Complete official vehicle inspections, apply correct documentation, and road test equipment for safety compliance
- Diagnostics: Use diagnostic tools and procedures to identify equipment issues and determine proper repair methods
- Safety Practices: Maintain a clean work area, follow all safety procedures, and report injuries or equipment damage immediately
- Equipment Support: Assist other mechanics with major repairs and demonstrate repair techniques to coworkers

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and it requires the Class B CDL to have the E removed.
- This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
- This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
Additional Requirements:
- This position requires employees to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
