This role oversees solid waste management operations and guides staff who carry out inspections, enforcement, emergency response, and coordination with partner agencies. It ensures statewide waste programs meet goals and follow state and federal rules. As a Environmental Group Manager, you will perform the following duties:
- Program Oversight: Manage waste regulatory programs to ensure inspections, enforcement, and activities follow state and federal requirements
- Staff Leadership: Direct daily operations, review work performance, provide guidance, and ensure training needs are met
- Compliance Review: Evaluate case files, enforcement recommendations, facility operations, and regulatory adherence
- Emergency Response: Coordinate staff coverage and support cleanup efforts following hazardous releases, spills, or natural disasters
- Data Management: Maintain accurate entries in DEP systems and use tools to monitor trends and program effectiveness
- Stakeholder Coordination: Meet with facility operators, officials, and partners to explain rules and exchange information

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Travel is required for site visits.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in the biological, physical, or environmental sciences, engineering, or in a field closely related to environmental protection or regulation; and five years of professional environmental protection experience; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Condition of Employment:
- This position requires possession of a valid driver’s license.
