As a Corrections Maintenance Foreman with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you play an important role in keeping the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Phoenix running smoothly every day. You oversee inmate work crews, guide repairs and improvements, and support skilled trades work throughout the facility. Your leadership helps maintain dependable operations and encourages productive teamwork among staff and inmates. This role focuses on guiding inmate work crews and assisting with maintenance and skilled trades tasks that support daily operations of the institution. Your work helps keep the facility functional and maintained. As a Corrections Maintenance Foreman, you will perform the following duties:

  • Crew Supervision: Oversee inmate work crews performing maintenance, repair, construction, and janitorial tasks
  • Work Planning: Plan daily schedules, assign tasks, and inspect completed work assignments
  • Equipment Instruction: Teach proper operation and preventative maintenance of machinery and vehicles
  • Skilled Assistance: Perform or assist with semi-skilled and skilled trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and welding
  • Tool Control: Issue, track, and inventory tools and materials while conducting searches to ensure accountability

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Sunday - Thursday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $49,010.00 (before taxes). A higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience performing building maintenance, construction, or general trades work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
