As a Highway Foreman 2 for the Department of Transportation, you will lead a skilled crew responsible for maintaining safe and dependable highways across Montgomery County. This role provides the chance to direct daily work, organize project plans, and respond to roadway needs with confidence. You will help ensure that maintenance operations are carried out efficiently and to high standards. This position is well suited for someone who values leadership, safety, and community service.
This position leads a highway maintenance crew that performs a wide range of repair and upkeep activities on county roads. It focuses on planning work, directing staff, and ensuring safe, efficient operations during both routine and emergency conditions. As a Highway Foreman 2, you will perform the following duties:
- Crew Supervision: Direct a team using heavy equipment and hand tools to complete highway maintenance tasks
- Work Planning: Schedule daily activities, investigate roadway concerns, and recommend priorities based on conditions
- Training Support: Teach crew members proper equipment use, safe methods, and quality standards for materials and workmanship
- Safety Leadership: Select traffic control setups and maintain a safe work area through proactive awareness and quick response
- Personnel Management: Evaluate employee performance, make staffing decisions, and provide coaching and guidance
- Operational Guidance: Oversee specialized workers assigned to projects and ensure smooth coordination of duties

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $54,162 (before taxes).

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a Highway Foreman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of experience in the performance of lead work or skilled tradesman duties on a highway maintenance or construction project; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania Driver's License.
