The Assistant Director of Learning Design and Innovation provides strategic and operational leadership for learning experience design across the Health Sciences, partnering with faculty and academic leaders to design and advance innovative, high-quality educational experiences.

Reporting to the Director of Education Technology, this position leads Learning Experience Design, Learning Innovation, and Educational Media Production across the Health Sciences. The Assistant Director oversees instructional design, emerging technology, and media production teams, ensuring services meet the needs of faculty, learners, and academic programs.

The Assistant Director establishes strategic direction, manages a portfolio of educational initiatives, develops high-performing teams, and fosters collaboration among instructional designers, innovation specialists, media professionals, and academic stakeholders. While technical expertise resides within each functional area, this position provides the leadership, vision, operational oversight, and accountability necessary to deliver high-quality learning experiences that advance education across the Health Sciences.

• Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, Higher Education, Information Technology, Media Production, or a related field.
• Seven years of progressively responsible experience in educational technology, instructional design, digital learning, educational media, or a related area.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with faculty, academic leaders, and other stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships and work collaboratively with faculty and academic programs.
• Curiosity and openness to new ideas, technologies, and approaches to teaching and learning.
• Experience managing complex projects or services and working across multiple teams and areas of expertise.

Manages or performs work across multiple areas of the University’s Information Technology (IT) platform and infrastructure. Conducts cost/benefit analyses, needs assessments and infrastructure impact assessments, develops project plans, and directs operations of outgoing services. Implements short- and long-term policies.

Lead Learning Experience Design, Learning Innovation, and Educational Media Production services across the Health Sciences. Partner with faculty and academic leaders on course and curriculum development, instructional design, accessibility, and effective use of technology. Ensure instructional design, innovation, and media production services support the needs of faculty, learners, and academic programs. Supervise managers, team leads, and professional staff, providing coaching, performance management, and opportunities for professional growth. Set priorities and manage staffing, budgets, resources, and vendor relationships. Build a collaborative team environment that supports staff ownership and expertise. Establish service standards and use data and feedback to assess and improve services. Guide projects and initiatives across Learning Experience Design, Learning Innovation, and Educational Media Production, ensuring they are well planned and delivered. Guide the evaluation, adoption, and use of emerging technologies for teaching and learning. Use data and feedback to assess services, identify opportunities, and make improvements. Work with subject matter experts to pilot and assess new tools and educational approaches. Collaborate with other technology teams to coordinate services and support. Represent Education Technology on committees and institutional initiatives. Will perform other duties as assigned.

Light, Little physical effort. Duties are primarily Sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
