Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Performs a variety of independent computational biology analyses and laboratory research activities in support of ongoing research projects. Analyzes high-throughput sequencing data, including RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, and selection-based sequencing data, using established and newly developed computational approaches. Applies and develops computational models for protein engineering and integrates genomic, sequencing, and protein engineering data to investigate molecular mechanisms. Provides tissue culture and experimental laboratory support, including preparation and maintenance of cell cultures and biological specimens. Compiles and analyzes research findings; prepares data, reports, and documentation for publication, manuscripts, and grant proposals. Oversees research data, specimen, and laboratory inventories as appropriate. Consults with other researchers and staff regarding computational analyses, laboratory procedures, experimental design, and interpretation of research findings. Develops recommendations and problem resolutions to improve computational workflows, experimental procedures, data quality, and overall research efforts.
Physical effort associated with wet lab work, i.e. standing while conducting experiments, sitting while working on computer, walking back and forth in the lab to sinks and microscopes, lifting packages less than 20lbs., etc.
