Purpose: Under the general direction of the management team, the Systems Analyst-Senior (Epic Beaker) provides advanced application expertise and technical leadership for the design, build, testing, implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of Epic Beaker solutions. This role partners with laboratory operations, clinical stakeholders, technical teams, and vendors to translate business needs into reliable, scalable solutions. The senior analyst leads complex initiatives, independently resolves high-impact issues, promotes application and documentation standards, and mentors’ other analysts while delivering work within established scope, budget, and timelines.
Responsibilities:
· Epic Beaker Application Support: Provide senior-level design, build, testing, implementation, maintenance, and optimization support for Epic Beaker Clinical Pathology, Anatomic Pathology, and Reference Laboratory functionality. Independently assess moderately complex and complex application needs and deliver reliable solutions.
· Documentation and Requirements: Produce complete, detail-oriented documentation for new and moderately complex application builds, workflows, support procedures, and processes. Maintain responsibility for document quality and validity and elicit and document customer and business requirements for use by application, architecture, engineering, integration, and vendor teams.
· Second- and Third-Level Support: Independently triage and resolve Level 2 and Level 3 Beaker issues, including high-priority or patient-impacting incidents. Perform root cause and problem management activities as appropriate, coordinate escalations, and mentor less experienced staff in issue investigation and resolution.
· Project Management: Take ownership of Beaker projects and initiatives; define scope, requirements, milestones, risks, and dependencies; assign and
coordinate tasks among team members; and meet milestone commitments. Maintain accurate project management and time-tracking records.
· Vendor and Stakeholder Relationships: Independently partner with laboratory operations, providers, IT teams, Epic, reference laboratories, and other vendors on technical issues and project initiatives. Serve as the point person for issue escalation when assigned and communicate status, risks, decisions, and recommendations clearly and concisely.
· Reporting and Analysis: Write, analyze, and modify complex operational and application reports. Translate business needs into reporting criteria, use data to support troubleshooting and decisions, act as a business analyst when appropriate, and mentor less experienced team members in reporting and analysis.
· End-User and Peer Training: Create training content and facilitate detailed training sessions for end users, super users, and peers. Share technical knowledge and support consistent adoption of Beaker workflows and team standards.
· Process Improvement: Independently identify opportunities to improve laboratory and application-support processes. Lead improvement efforts and create or update sustainable processes across specimen collection, processing, testing, result reporting, reference laboratory, and support workflows.
· Application Upgrades and Implementations: Identify new functionality and technical requirements associated with Beaker upgrades and implementations. Create test plans; review and validate functionality; report and coordinate resolution of issues; and create or manage cutover, downtime, stabilization, and contingency plans. Evaluate impacts and coordinate work across applications, interfaces, instruments, middleware, reference laboratories, and enterprise platforms.
· Reference Laboratory and System Integration: Maintain reference laboratory test compendiums and related build, troubleshoot interface error queues, and resolve order and result-routing issues. Coordinate tasks and resources for integrations among Epic, laboratory instruments, middleware, reference laboratories, and enterprise systems, including validation of end-to-end testing and implementation readiness.
· Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies and behaviors.

Qualifications:
· Typically has 5+ years’ experience with modern technology and application support through education or practical experience.
· Highly driven and self-motivated to exceed expectations.
· Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment.
· Demonstrates thorough understanding of information technology fundamental tools and concepts (SDLC) of one of the information technology professional disciplines and applies that understanding to make independent practical contributions to IT work within a UPMC department or function.
· Completes on-going training on-the-job, through courses, self-study, certifications and/or advanced degrees to maintain and enhance technical and business capabilities.
· This position may require participation in the team’s rotating standby schedule, with 24/7 availability during assigned standby periods. Rotation frequency depends on the number of participating team members.
