RentHelpPGH’s mission is to to build a just and stable housing ecosystem for Allegheny County tenants by ensuring residents can easily access high quality eviction prevention and supportive services, rental assistance programs, and resource navigation supports.

Since 2020, RentHelpPGH has served more than 12,000 Allegheny County households at risk of or actively experiencing evictions. RentHelpPGH provides direct outreach to individuals at all stages of the formal eviction hearing process in order to connect individuals with rental, utility, and legal assistance that can keep families in their homes. We are a founding member of the Allegheny Housing Stabilization Collaborative (AHSC) with which we design and implement eviction prevention and housing-stabilization programs with our partner agencies, ACTION-Housing, Inc., Community Justice Project, Just Mediation Pittsburgh, and Neighborhood Legal Services.

Role Summary

RentHelpPGH (“RHP”) is hiring a Mediation Resource Navigator to support successful landlord / tenant mediation agreements. This position will collaborate closely with RHP’s partner agency, Just Mediation Pittsburgh (“JMP”), to receive mediation cases and provide resource navigation support to parties attending mediation. The Mediation Resource Navigator will conduct pre-mediation consultations with both the tenant and landlord to identify key issues and supportive resources for dispute resolution. The Mediation Resource Navigator may participate, along with the tenant, landlord, and mediator, in the mediation to provide onsite guidance towards identifying appropriate services and programs. After the mediation, they will work with the tenant and landlord to connect the appropriate parties with those services and programs. The Mediation Resource Navigator will work with an assigned case load on an ongoing basis. 

Core Responsibilities

Resource Navigation 

  • Provide clear and compassionate communication to tenants and landlords engaged in disputes.
  • Respond to client inquiries within 3 business days of receipt
  • Conduct pre-mediation calls to clients, resulting in clear identification of areas of concern for the client
  • Identify resources appropriate to the parties’ needs.
  • Analyze client’s eligibility for programs.
  • Review any and all requirements and procedures for applications with clients. 
  • Assist clients in connecting to and applying for resources, including setting up accounts for online applications, gathering documents, submitting documents to appropriate providers, completing direct referrals, etc.
  • Develop new resource connections when appropriate.
  • Follow the designated processes for using communication, referrals, and data tracking platforms.
  • Communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with collaboration partners including JMP and ACTION-Housing.
  • Attend programmatic trainings.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of eviction proceedings in Allegheny County.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of RentHelpPGH’s programs, and cross-train in internal programs as necessary
  • Identify and track themes among the client base and contribute to advocacy efforts within RentHelpPGH’s mission.
  • Participate in staff meetings, reviews, and other mandatory staff trainings and events
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED completion
  • Proficiency in HubSpot, Excel, Zoom, and Google platforms and comfort with learning independently-developed platforms
  • Strong virtual and in-person communication skills
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to write professional emails and texts. 
  • Comfort with “cold-calling” communications and outreach, ie. unsolicited outreach
  • Ability to work independently, self-direct work tasks, and create and execute attainable work plans
  • Ability to track detailed and complicated paperwork and situations
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, rapidly changing work environment
  • Solid candidates have a spirit of service, highly effective customer service skills, a strong desire to help their neighbors, a commitment to social justice, and personal experience navigating social services. Candidates should also have knowledge of and comfort with computers and using a developing online customer management platform and be curious, creative, and flexible.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Primarily remote role, requiring the use of home internet, reliable internet required for remote work
  • Occasional in-person meetings required
  • Reliable transportation with the ability to travel locally for work (Allegheny County & City of Pittsburgh), presentations, events, and meetings as requested
  • Flexible scheduling with ability to work evenings/weekends as needed. 
  • While performing the duties this job requires the employee to work on a computer regularly, as well as regularly be required to sit, stand, walk, speak, and hear. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects of up to 20 pounds (ie: work materials).
