About Allegheny GoatScape
At Allegheny GoatScape, our goats are the heart of our mission. With every bite, they restore balance to our landscapes by clearing unwanted vegetation to help native plants and local ecosystems thrive. Together, our hardworking herds and human team are cultivating a greener, healthier Pittsburgh.
Established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2017, Allegheny GoatScape is now in its 10th working season, partnering with municipalities, land trusts, and community organizations to clear overgrown, invasive vegetation across Pittsburgh and Allegheny County using herds of friendly goats.
About the Role
Allegheny GoatScape is seeking new members to join its Board of Directors. Board members serve two-year terms and play an active role in guiding the organization's strategy, financial health, and community presence, all while supporting a genuinely unique and joyful mission.
Board Member Commitment
- Two-year appointed term
- Attend board meetings
- Serve actively on at least one standing committee
- Contribute an average of 4 hours/month of personal time
- Willingness to take on leadership roles as needed
- Learn basic goat herd care, in case of need to support staff
- Make a personally significant annual financial contribution to AGS
What We're Looking For
- A genuine passion for AGS's mission and a drive to raise its visibility across the region
- Reliable attendance and active participation in board and committee meetings
- Responsiveness to board and staff communications (within two business days)
- Enthusiasm for fundraising: building partnerships, identifying prospective supporters, and rallying others behind campaigns
- Comfort recruiting volunteers and future board members
As a Board, Directors Collectively
- Set AGS's short- and long-term goals and objectives
- Set policy and oversee program delivery
- Safeguard the organization's continued financial stability
- Bring in outside expertise via task/ad hoc committees as needed
- Develop and oversee personnel policy
