Materials Technician 2

This role supports PennDOT by performing technical testing, calibrations, and evaluations on a wide range of transportation materials and equipment.  As a Materials Technician 2, you will perform the following duties:

• Gauge Calibration: Repair and calibrate nuclear moisture and density gauges used for transportation materials testing
• Radiation Safety: Administer dosimeter distribution and tracking and complete radiation surveys and leak tests
• Material Testing: Prepare samples and test polymers, concrete, steel, pavement markers, and related materials
• Field Evaluation: Operate specialized equipment to evaluate pavement marking materials for retro-reflection, color, and durability
• Specimen Preparation: Polish metallographic samples and identify testing needs based on required specifications
• Data Recording: Maintain logs, input testing results into electronic Construction and Materials Management System (eCAMMS), and ensure records and equipment documentation remain current

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as a Materials Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years of experience in the testing of materials used in highway, bridge, building, hydraulic or similar construction projects and graduation from high school; or
• One year of experience in the testing of materials used in highway, bridge, building, hydraulic or similar construction projects, and an Associate's Degree in engineering or in a closely related field; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training. 

Other Requirements:

• You must obtain a Class B CDL within initial 6-month probationary period, and maintain the CDL while in the position.
