Under general supervision, the Manger, Pulmonary Lab / Rehab is responsible for managing daily operations of the pulmonary diagnostic lab, exercise physiology lab and pulmonary rehab. Responsible for overseeing and delegating quality assurance and process improvement activities, equipment evaluations. Assists director in preparing the operating and capital budgets. The final title and pay will be determined by education, experience and certifications.
Occasional travel to other CHP Satellite locations may be required
Responsibilities:
- Performs duties and responsibilities according to the corporate philosophy and basis of service excellence of the UPMC Health System.
- Manages day to day workflow and is responsible for the utilization of departments resources and directs subordinate staff to accomplish the day’s work in the pulmonary laboratory and pulmonary rehabilitation departments.
- Provides leadership to Leads and Charge Technologist by teaching and assisting with orientation and being a resource when needed.
- Responsible for evaluation and purchase of new equipment, coordinates major equipment repair and preventive maintenance; maintains records and reports of equipment maintenance.
- Participates actively in the development and maintenance of the department's quality improvement program meeting requirements of the hospital, JCAHO and other accrediting agencies.
- Evaluates laboratory programs and activities; develops, implements and updates Pulmonary Diagnostic Laboratory's operating policies and procedures in accordance with GLI and ATS/ERS standards, infection control and safety, equipment calibration, evaluations and repairs, patient records and inventory.
- Assesses and makes necessary changes to process and workflow, Epic Templates, scheduling of both in patient and outpatients.
- Develops and demonstrates annual competencies while insuring overall proficiency of all team members.
- Works closely with support staff (training, supervision and delegation) in a manner that both verbally and non-verbally promotes respect, confidence and a team atmosphere.
- Promotes effective communication and demonstrates cooperation and teamwork within the department, hospital and with other health care professionals.
- Organizes, and conducts team meetings.
- Participates in leadership meetings, in services and continuing education.
- Serves as a resource and back up to the pulmonary rehab.
- Prepares for and responds to emergencies consistent with departmental guidelines.
- Must be Graduate of a Co ARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) approved Respiratory program required with a bachelor’s degree; and/or be credentialed by the NBRC as a Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist or Certified as an Exercise Specialist or Exercise Physiologist by the American College of Sports Medicine.
- Must have two years’ experience in pulmonary diagnostic testing and pulmonary rehab or equivalent with a demonstrated proficiency in all procedures offered by either department.
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Master’s degree desired and two years lead (i.e., charge duties) pulmonary technologist experience in a Pulmonary Laboratory or Pulmonary Rehab or three – five years’ experience in a Pulmonary Laboratory or Pulmonary Rehab setting.
- Must successfully complete two (3-4) approved projects from the departments’ project list during each annual performance review period.
- Must be an NBRC Registered.
- Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) and have specialized and advanced experience in cardiopulmonary exercise testing.
- Previous supervisory experience is highly desirable. Functions as a Lead Pulmonary Technologist.
- Functions as a senior level resource to other staff to facilitate problem solving, provide training, and demonstrate techniques.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Registered Pulmonary Functions Therapist OR Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
