Custodial Worker 1 (Limited Term) - Torrance State Hospital

As a Custodial Worker 1 for the Department of Human Services, you will help maintain a safe and comfortable environment for everyone who walks through our doors. This position gives you the chance to support patient care by keeping essential areas tidy. Your efforts will make a meaningful difference each day.



This role focuses on keeping hospital areas clean, organized, and safe through routine housekeeping tasks. As a Custodial Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Restroom and Room Cleaning: Clean restrooms, shower rooms, patient dorms, day wards, hallways, offices, activity areas, dining rooms, steps, and lobby areas
  • Annual Deep Cleaning: Perform annual cleaning of walls, windows, screens, lights, curtains, blinds, and ceilings, including vents
  • Floor Maintenance: Strip, wax, or otherwise maintain floors annually or as needed
  • Equipment Handling: Lift, climb ladders, and operate housekeeping equipment while keeping it clean
  • Trash and Debris Removal: Empty indoor and outdoor trash receptacles and keep all areas neat and free of debris
  • Linen Distribution: Unpack and distribute linens as necessary and complete daily documentation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Limited-term, full-time employment for a period of 6 to 11 months.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Sunday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch. Your schedule follows a rotating weekend pattern, requiring work approximately every fourth weekend, with assigned days off during the week.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Hourly Rate: In some cases, the starting hourly rate may be non-negotiable.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
