Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor (Transportation)

The Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor (Transportation) with the Department of Transportation, District 6, guides complex engineering work that improves safety and supports major public projects. This position manages engineering work that connects roadway design, railroad operations, public utilities, and major transportation projects. It involves coordinating inspections, reviewing plans, guiding staff, overseeing agreements, and supporting safe and effective project delivery. As a Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor (Transportation), you will perform the following duties:

• Railroad Coordination: Serve as liaison for railroad impacts to transportation projects and support reviews, communication, and required actions
• Project Oversight: Manage utility designation projects, lead teams, monitor progress, and address risks and problems
• Engineering Inspection: Inspect facilities and projects to check compliance with plans, detect deficiencies, and resolve issues
• PUC Representation: Prepare data, attend hearings, and present the Department’s position for cases involving the Public Utility Commission
• Grade Crossing Work: Supervise safety program tasks such as preparing plans, developing proposals, and coordinating crossing improvements
• Staff Supervision: Lead and guide engineering staff, approve leave, assign work, and conduct performance evaluations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $80,646 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
• Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
• Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of a valid driver’s license.

Other Requirements:

• PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
