Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic

This position focuses on maintaining, repairing, and inspecting diesel and construction equipment to support safe and effective operations. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

• Equipment Repair: Diagnose and fix mechanical issues on vehicles, trucks, tractors, and construction machinery
• Preventative Maintenance: Carry out scheduled servicing on engines, systems, and equipment parts
• State Inspections: Conduct official safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation
• Diagnostic Testing: Identify equipment problems using testing procedures and specialized tools
• Safety Practices: Maintain a clean work area and follow proper safety procedures to prevent injuries
• Field Adjustments: Perform minor repairs and make routine adjustments to ensure safe operation of equipment

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.
• This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
• This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.  

Additional Requirements:

• Employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
• Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
• This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
