The Office of PittServes within the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh serves as a catalyst for students and communities to engage in action that creates impactful change. The Outreach Coordinator will be joining a team working to realize the vision of achieving resilient and equitable communities and inspire civically minded individuals. The Office of PittServes focuses on engaging and educating Pitt students about civic action, with student leaders key to engaging their peers. Working with partners in the greater Pittsburgh community, as well as on-campus entities, current programs range from (but are not limited to) Pitt Impact Ambassadors, campus and community-based sustainability initiatives, Signature Days of Service, Alternative Break trips, PittVotes, the Pitt Civic Engagement Council, and other partnerships engaging students in community-identified projects. All employees within the Division will be asked to perform duties outside of their department. Additional assignments may include, but are not limited to Welcome Week Activities, Divisional committees, events, etc.
A successful candidate will possess:
- Civic engagement skills — connects with student organizations and helps them explore ways to get involved in community and civic activities, offering guidance and useful resources along the way.
- Relationship-building — reaches out to and builds trust with local agencies and partners, keeping communication open so those relationships can grow over time.
- Event coordination — helps plan and organize student-facing events, such as sustainability initiatives and days of service, handling the logistics and administrative details.
- Data tracking and trend awareness — keeps outreach records current in the tracking system and stays alert to shifts in community needs at the local, state, and national level.
- Budget and grant skills — oversees program budgets responsibly and pursues grant funding and fundraising opportunities to keep initiatives running smoothly.
Implements a comprehensive outreach plan and plays a crucial role in expansion programs and service-based initiatives. Performs targeted outreach to engage new partners and identifies opportunities to expand the depth of the organizations providing episodic and long-term service projects to the University community. Identifies service trends and needs and provides comprehensive support for student-facing sustainability events. Performs budgetary functions and grant writing.
- Implements a comprehensive outreach plan that is designed to increase the number of community-agency partners and provide service opportunities.
- Plays a crucial role in expansion programs and service-based initiatives.
- Attends to community partner needs and performs targeted outreach to engage new partners based on student interest.
- Identifies opportunities to expand the depth and breadth of the organizations providing episodic and long-term service projects to the University community; communicates with these organizations and consistently updates the online data management/service database.
- Assists in identifying local, state, and national trends of service and need.
- Advises and supports student organizations and groups exploring community and civic engagement opportunities; creates relationships and identifies resources and tools that connect and expose students to civic and community engagement programs, events, issues, and organizations connected with the community and civic engagement.
- Provides administrative, program planning, logistical, and budget assistance for student-facing sustainability events; collaborates with students on program initiatives, marketing, and outreach.
- Manages the budget for the initiative, which includes additional fundraising and grant writing opportunities.
Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. May be required to move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally.
